Hyundai Mobis hires ex-Continental expert on infotainment, connectivity

SEOUL, May 10 (Yonhap) — South Korea’s top auto parts maker Hyundai Mobis Co. said Thursday that it has hired a former software expert of German automotive technology firm Continental in the latest move to strengthen its infotainment and connectivity competitiveness.

Carsten Weiss, who handled development of telematics, infotainment systems and software platforms at Continental, joined Hyundai Mobis as vice president in charge of developing in-vehicle infotainment software.

Hyundai Mobis said Weiss could help the company boost its software capability and cyber security for vehicles, given that all new cars rely on various computer-controlled systems.

Weiss is the latest foreign specialist to join Hyundai Mobis, the auto parts making unit of South Korean auto giant Hyundai Motor Group.

Last year, Hyundai Mobis hired Gregory Baratoff, a former Continental head of camera sensor development, and Mirco Goetz, a former official in charge of development of lighting technology optics at Hella, a German maker of automobile headlights and electronics.
