Navi UPI has integrated with the Open Network for Digital Commerce (ONDC) to allow commuters in Delhi, Mumbai and Bengaluru to buy metro QR tickets through the Navi app.
Through the integration, users can plan routes, book single or return journey QR tickets, and make payments in one go. The feature removes the need for separate ticketing apps, paper tickets or queueing at stations.
“India’s metros move more than a crore people every day, yet a large share of riders still rely on cash and queues. At Navi, we believe daily payments shouldn’t slow anyone down. By integrating with the ONDC Network, we’re making metro travel truly digital – one app, one QR ticket, one seamless tap on Navi UPI. For commuters on the go, this is how everyday mobility should feel,” said Rajiv Naresh, MD and CEO, Navi Limited.
Expansion across metro systems
“As more companies like Navi adopt open protocols, the value to consumers multiplies across use cases. This is how open ecosystems move from innovation to impact, making everyday services simpler and more connected for everyone,” said Nitin Nair, Senior Executive Director, ONDC.
The service is currently live with Delhi Metro, Mumbai Metro (Lines 1, 2A, 7 and 3) and Bengaluru Metro. Navi UPI plans to extend the facility to additional cities and transport networks as ONDC broadens its mobility initiatives. In particular, Chennai, Hyderabad, and Kochi are expected to join.
The urban metro rail network serves 1.15 crore daily commuters, with more than 40 per cent still using cash or physical tickets. By digitising metro ticketing, Navi UPI aims to increase digital payment adoption and expand its user base.
