Sonalika Tractors displayed its first CNG/CBG-powered tractor at the 16th Agrovision 2025 summit on Sunday, marking the company’s entry into alternative fuel farm equipment.
The unveiling took place in the presence of Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari and Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Shivraj Singh Chouhan. The tractor is designed to operate on compressed natural gas or compressed bio-gas, aligning with the government’s SATAT and GobarDHAN initiatives promoting clean energy adoption.
The tractor features a 2000 rated RPM engine with a 12+3 constant mesh transmission and side shift gear system. It is equipped with 14.9×28 rear tyres and a 40 kg fuel capacity split between two cylinders. The company positioned the model for heavy-duty haulage applications where torque and fuel efficiency are priorities.
Sonalika also presented a tractor-trolley combination at the event, intended to utilize the expanding CNG infrastructure in rural areas. The company, which describes itself as India’s number one tractor export brand, stated the alternative fuel system aims to deliver lower operating costs compared to conventional diesel tractors.
Raman Mittal, Joint Managing Director of International Tractors Limited, said the CNG/CBG tractor represents a step toward sustainable farming technology. He emphasized the company’s focus on combining performance with environmental considerations and economic viability for farmers.
The introduction comes as the agricultural sector faces pressure to adopt cleaner technologies while maintaining operational efficiency. The tractor’s compatibility with both CNG and CBG offers flexibility in fuel sourcing, particularly relevant given the government’s push to develop bio-gas infrastructure through organic waste conversion programs.
