Mahindra Resets 7-Seater EV Pricing: XEV 9S Debuts at ₹19.95–29.95 Lakh With Features Seen Above This Segment

Mahindra & Mahindra has reset pricing expectations in the electric SUV segment with the launch of the XEV 9S, offering its fully loaded top-end variant at ₹29.45 lakh (ex-showroom). With battery options spanning 59 kWh, 70 kWh, and 79 kWh, the new model introduces technology and comfort features that the company typically associates with vehicles positioned much higher in the market.

The test drive starts in December, with bookings opening on 14th January 2026, and deliveries beginning on 23rd January 2026.

Presenting the variant walk, Nalinikant Gollagunta, CEO – Automotive Division, described the pricing as “very aggressive”, calling the entry configuration “a phenomenal package for us”. He characterised the top variant as “insane” for the level of equipment offered at this price. Gollagunta noted that there is a “20 to 30 percent difference between cars” when assessing the feature advantage that the 9S brings into the segment. He said the company remains “well below what we would see in a high-speed segment”, underlining the strategy of offering upper-segment features without moving into higher price bands.

Mahindra shared internal comparisons during the pricing reveal, showing that the XEV 9S delivers a measurable step-up in feature content relative to the segment it competes in.

The company also pointed out that several features on the top-end variant are generally not found in vehicles priced “30 lakhs, 40 lakhs, 50 lakhs”, highlighting the value uplift in the upper trims.

Space and Performance Claims

The XEV 9S claims the biggest cabin space of 4,076 litres for the front and second rows, boot space of up to 527 litres, and a best-in-class frunk of 150 litres. Built on the INGLO platform, it offers a ground clearance of 205 mm (222 mm battery ground clearance) with a command seating position.

Power outputs vary by battery: the 79 kWh variant delivers 210 kW, the 70 kWh produces 180 kW with 380 Nm of torque, and the 59 kWh offers 170 kW. The top-spec 79 kWh model accelerates from 0-100 km/h in 7.0 seconds with a top speed of 202 km/h, making it the fastest 7-seater SUV in its class. The SUV maintains a turning circle diameter of just 10 metres.

Mahindra claims a real-world range of 500 km with its advanced LFP batteries, which come with a lifetime warranty. Superfast charging enables 20-80% charge in 20 minutes with a 180 kW DC charger for the 79 kWh pack.

Three Variant Blocks With Progressive Upgrades

Mahindra has structured the 9S across three “Pack Above” bands:

Pack One Above (59 kWh & 79 kWh): Positioned as the core value offering at ₹19.95 lakh to ₹21.95 lakh.

Pack Two Above (70 kWh & 79 kWh): Introduces comfort and technology upgrades at Rs 24.45 lakh to Rs 25.45 lakh.

Pack Three Above (79 kWh): The flagship variant, priced at ₹29.45 lakh, with L2+ ADAS featuring 5 radars and 1 vision camera, intelligent adaptive suspension, VisionX AR HUD, Eyedentity driver and occupant monitoring system, ventilated second-row seats with powered Boss Mode, and the Qualcomm 8295 Snapdragon chipset with 24 GB RAM and 128 GB storage.

Tech-Forward EV Positioned for Wider Adoption
Across the line-up, Mahindra is offering a mix of multi-screen interfaces, upgraded connectivity hardware, advanced ADAS capability, and expanded comfort features. The company highlighted that the model introduces several technologies not seen before at this price point.

By offering segment-stretching equipment in a sub-₹30 lakh package, Mahindra aims to accelerate EV consideration among buyers evaluating larger SUVs and multi-row vehicles. The company expects the 9S to open up broader opportunities in the mid-to-upper segment of the Indian utility vehicle market.

So far, Mahindra & Mahindra has sold over 30000 electric vehicles – since its launch a year ago, and it is already a Revenue leader in the fast-growing EV space, which is set to scale beyond 1.5 lakh units.
