Stellantis management wants to set up three activities in Poissy (Yvelines). This concerns the manufacturing of spare parts, but also the circular economy, including car recycling. This represents 20 million euros of investment to modernize part of the factory. For Stellantis, it is above all a matter of reassuring employees.

“The factory will not close, there is no social plan planned at the Poissy factory. And we were able to share the first good news, bringing jobs and activities for years to come, even for several decades,” indicates Eric Haan, director of the Stellantis factory in Poissy.

In this factory, 2000 employees manufacture 400 Opel Mokkas per day. They are divided into two teams: one in the morning, the second in the evening. Problem: sales of this small SUV (recreational all-terrain vehicle) are uncertain. Management could therefore decide to keep only one team next year. At the same time, it promises to keep all its employees. The unions are divided on this promise.

“There are 2,000 of us on the site, plus all the thousands of employees of subcontractors and equipment manufacturers who are threatened with losing their jobs. Management today refuses to discuss guarantees. What we are asking for are guarantees after Mokka,” worries Jean-Pierre Mercier, SUD Stellantis Poissy union delegate.

For his part, Brahim Ait Athmane also expresses reservations. “It is not because we have a new car that we have activity. On the other hand, industrial activity, from the moment it is understood, when it is mastered, it can really provide employment for employees,” adds this FO Stellantis Poissy union delegate.

With these 20 million euros of investment announced today, Stellantis is preparing a turnaround for its Poissy factory. She wants to transform it into a recycling site and no longer just for car manufacturing. However, the number of employees who can find a place in these new activities remains unknown.
