Over 3.3 lakh challans were issued and 514 vehicles were seized by the traffic police this Nov, as it observed a traffic safety month.
A total of 147,364 challans —nearly 44.5per cent —were issued to bikers without helmets, which was the top violation in the city.
However, traffic cops said this year’s challan for driving without a helmet was low compared to the previous year’s traffic safety month.
“Due to awareness and stricter enforcement, more people have started wearing helmets while riding two-wheelers. We will continue to raise awareness and inform people about the importance of traffic rules,” said Pravin Ranjan Singh, deputy commissioner of police (traffic).
The police issued a total of 3,31,090 challans this month, including no-parking (36,057), wrong-side driving (28,081), speeding (18,300), pollution (16,946), red light jump (12,385), tripling on a bike (12,290), etc. The number of violations marginally increased in all types of violations except for no helmet riding. In addition to enforcement, awareness programmes were held at 327 schools where nearly 1 lakh students participated. The students were sensitised about traffic rules. Apart from this, 6,645 traffic awareness programmes like street plays were conducted across the district, targeting nearly 4 lakh people, including commuters, auto and taxi drivers and residents.
Cops also launched a Google Maps initiative this month, where people can now see the speed limits on Noida roads.>
