“The subsidies are provided based on the vehicle categories. So far, ₹340.95 crore has been disbursed towards subsidies to the buyers of EVs,” said Jena, adding the govt doesn’t maintain the data of the subsidies given to govt employees.
Jena also informed the house that there are 12 EV charging stations currently operational in Bhubaneswar. “The govt is taking steps to formalise and implement a new EV policy. Once done, the outcome will be known,” he said.
As per the reply, EV registration in the state has seen massive year-on-year growth. In the 2022-23 fiscal year, 17,824 two-wheeler EVs were registered, which rose to 38,565 in 2023-24 and 55,536 during 2024-25. Till Nov this year, 43,256 EVs have already been registered.
Similarly, in the four-wheeler segment, the state saw the registration of only 386 vehicles in 2022-23, which more than doubled the next year to 1,470 and 2,742 during 2024-25. Till Nov this year, the past year’s number has already been crossed and stands at 2,999.
In terms of subsidy provision per vehicle category, from April to Nov this year, the govt has already disbursed ₹56.39 crore for two-wheeler EVs, ₹10.24 crore for three-wheeler EVs, and ₹35.23 crore for four-wheeler EVs.
Notably, the state first rolled out its exclusive EV policy during 2020-21 and came up with different provisions, including subsidies for promotion of EVs. It was later revised during the 2022-23 fiscal year, and the subsidies were raised accordingly.
Currently, the state govt has formalised a new Odisha EV Policy 2.0 with a target to achieve 50% EV registration by 2036. The state govt has also planned to convert all police vans and ambulances into EVs to attain faster adoption of sustainable mobility.
