IG Metall criticizes the delay in short-time working benefits

Contrary to the announcement after the coalition committee, the Federal Cabinet did not make a decision on short-time working benefits today. Christiane Benner, first chairwoman of IG Metall, criticizes this:

December 10, 202510. 12, 2025

“There was an agreement and communication that the extension of the short-time working allowance regulation was coming. Our companies need it. It is therefore incomprehensible and dangerous to delay or even try to prevent an extension of the short-time working allowance. This leads to uncertainty and even more layoffs. We need the extension as a bridge and support, especially in smaller companies. In our companies in Nuremberg alone, over 2,000 employees are acutely dependent on the extension.”
