Pulse Energy has partnered with HPe Charge, the EV charging brand of Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL), to integrate over 5,000 EV chargers into its payments and access platform, allowing drivers to locate, access, and pay for charging across HPCL stations through a single interface.
The partnership adds HPCL’s charging network to Pulse Energy’s platform, which already includes Shell, ChargeZone, BESCOM, Thunderplus, and other regional and national charging operators. The platform supports over 18 million electric kilometres driven monthly across partner networks.
“India doesn’t have an EV range anxiety problem, it has an access problem,” said Akhil Jayaprakash, Co-Founder of Pulse Energy. “We’re slowly building the infrastructure no one sees, but everyone uses.”
HPCL has been expanding its EV charging presence across highways, fuel stations, and urban centres under the HPe Charge brand. The integration with Pulse Energy extends charging access for intercity and long-distance EV travel.
The partnership reduces the need for multiple apps and payment systems for EV drivers while improving infrastructure utilisation for operators. The integration represents a shift from network competition toward collaboration in India’s EV charging ecosystem, which has been characterised by fragmented networks and proprietary apps.
As India’s EV adoption accelerates, interoperability between charging networks has emerged as a factor in addressing range concerns and enabling long-distance electric travel. Such integrations complement the ongoing expansion of charging infrastructure by making existing chargers more accessible to a wider user base, a development that industry stakeholders view as necessary for mainstream EV adoption in the country.
