R C Bhargava, Chairman of Maruti Suzuki India Limited, on Friday, was conferred with the ICSI Lifetime Achievement Award for Translating Excellence in Corporate Governance into Reality by the Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI).
The award was presented at the ICSI National Awards for Excellence in Corporate Governance by Raj Bhushan Choudhary, Minister of State for Jal Shakti, and P. T. Usha, Member of Parliament, Rajya Sabha, and President of the Indian Olympic Association.
Accepting the award, Bhargava said the recognition reflected the collective efforts of Maruti Suzuki’s management and employees over several decades. He said the company’s workforce’s high standards of ethics and integrity had contributed to the honour.
Bhargava also said that effective corporate governance requires senior management to clearly distinguish between right and wrong, act as trustees of the company’s assets, focus on team building, and safeguard the legitimate interests of all stakeholders.
ICSI is a statutory professional body established under the Company Secretaries Act, 1980, and functions under the Ministry of Corporate Affairs. The institute plays a role in promoting corporate governance standards and supporting the government’s broader socio-economic initiatives.
