Vertis Infrastructure has formally launched India’s first Truck Mounted Attenuator at the Ador Campus in Pune, introducing crash-absorption technology designed to enhance safety for highway workers and motorists in active construction zones.
The launch event brought together officials from the National Highways Authority of India, industry representatives, and safety specialists to mark the introduction of equipment that has been standard practice in the United States and Europe for protecting work-zone personnel.
Highway construction zones present elevated risks due to high vehicle speeds, limited protective barriers, and close proximity between traffic flow and workers. The TMA system addresses these challenges by providing dedicated impact-absorption capability in live traffic environments.
Ankit Yadav from NHAI outlined the authority’s commitment to developing zero-fatality corridors on national highways, noting that technologies like truck mounted attenuators are essential components in improving work-zone safety standards.
Zafar, Joint Chief Executive Officer at Vertis Infrastructure, described the development process that led to the launch, emphasizing the project’s central objective of protecting workers in hazardous highway conditions.
The TMA functions as a crash cushion mounted on service vehicles operating in live traffic areas. When a rear-end collision occurs, the system absorbs impact energy and decelerates the striking vehicle in a controlled sequence, reducing the severity of injuries and potential fatalities.
The technology has been operational on Indian roads since 2021 and has been credited with contributing to the prevention of over 100 fatalities during that period.
Twenty TMA units are prepared for deployment under the current initiative. Eight units were formally inaugurated at the launch event, with the remaining twelve scheduled for delivery within ten days.
The launch program included a live operational demonstration of the TMA system, technical briefings on deployment procedures, and discussions regarding expansion of the technology across additional national highway projects.
The initiative represents continued efforts to integrate internationally proven safety measures into India’s expanding highway infrastructure program.
