Honda Prologue sales reached nearly 40,000 in 2025 with deep discounts

The Honda Prologue was one of the most popular EVs in the US in 2025, even after December sales crashed 88%.

Honda Prologue sales rise in 2025 despite EV pullback

After launching in March 2024, the Honda Prologue surprisingly became one of the best-selling electric vehicles in the US.

In the second half of 2024, the Honda Prologue ranked third among EVs, trailing only the Tesla Model Y and Model 3.

Even as new competition arrived, Honda managed to sell 39,194 Prologues in 2025, up 19% from roughly 33,000 the year prior. The majority of the sales came before the $7,500 federal EV tax credit expired at the end of September.

Through the first nine months of the year, Honda Prologue sales reached 36,553, meaning it sold just 2,641 units in Q4. In December, Honda sold just 932 Prologues, a stark contrast (-88%) from 8,885 in the year prior.

Honda has been offering steep discounts to push inventory, even before the tax credit ended. In September, buyers could score over $20,000 in combined savings in some states.

To be fair, nearly every automaker reported lower EV sales in the final few months of 2025 following the US policy changes.

Hyundai reported earlier today that IONIQ 5 sales rose 6% in the US to just over 47,039 in 2025, beating out the Honda Prologue. However, IONIQ 5 sales also fell 50% in December compared to the year prior.

Kia announced EV6 and EV9 sales fell by double digits, with just 15,501 and 12,933 models sold in 2025, respectively. With the new and improved 2026 model arriving, Toyota sold just 15,609 BZ (formerly bZ4X) SUVs in the US last year.

The Prologue is built on GM’s Ultium Platform, the same one underpinning all Chevy, GMC, and Cadillac EVs, but Honda is launching a new dedicated in-house platform this year. The new Acura RSX will be the first model based on the new platform, followed by Honda’s new 0 Series electric SUV and sedan.
