EKA Mobility has commenced deployment of electric buses for the Capital Region Urban Transport (CRUT) in Odisha, introducing its EKA 9M model to the state’s public transport fleet. The deployment was carried out in partnership with Travel Time Mobility Pvt. Ltd.
Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi virtually flagged off the buses, marking the state’s continued investment in electric public transport infrastructure.
The project encompasses a total of 100 EKA electric buses that will operate across the capital region, expanding CRUT’s public transport capacity while transitioning to zero-emission vehicles.
Technical Specifications
The EKA 9M is a 9-meter electric bus with a seating capacity of 35 passengers. The vehicle features wheelchair accessibility and is powered by a 213 kW motor paired with a 200 kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery system.
Rohit Srivastava, Business Head and Chief Growth Officer at EKA Mobility, stated that the deployment represents progress toward sustainable urban mobility solutions in India. The company aims to reduce carbon emissions while enhancing passenger experience through its electric vehicle technology.
Vivek Kalkar, Director at Travel Time Mobility Pvt. Ltd., described the deployment as a step toward establishing clean mobility infrastructure in Odisha. The company is managing the operational aspects of the bus deployment for CRUT.
EKA Mobility operates as Pinnacle Mobility Solutions Pvt. Ltd., with equity partnerships from Mitsui & Co., Ltd. of Japan and VDL Groep of the Netherlands. The company focuses on commercial vehicle electric mobility solutions and manufactures electric buses for urban and rural transport applications across India.
The deployment in Odisha represents part of EKA Mobility’s ongoing expansion of its electric bus operations in various Indian states, contributing to the national transition toward electric public transport systems.
