Cologne. The Corsa has been one of the bestsellers in the Opel portfolio for over 40 years. The small car has been in its seventh generation since the beginning of 2020, including the electric derivative: the Corsa-e. The TÜV knows how this performs during the main inspections (HU).

Quality

In the two HUs evaluated by TÜV so far, the Corsa-e gives a pretty good impression, but two weak points are visible. The TÜV experts criticize the axle suspension, particularly in the two to three year olds. In this age group, wear on the brake discs is also negative. Axle springs and steering, lights and how the brakes work, on the other hand, operate inconspicuously.

Body and interior

When designing the electric Corsa, Opel took a subtle approach compared to many other electric car manufacturers. No bling, no eye-catching add-on parts: the 4.06 meter long small car only differs marginally from the conventionally powered versions.

The biggest differences to the combustion engine model are the “e” at the rear, streamlined rims and the “E” in the license plate. Inside, unlike its siblings Peugeot 208-e and DS3 Crossback E-Tense, things are typically more business-like for Opel. The space is okay, but not outstanding, especially in the rear. The trunk volume varies between 267 and 1,042 liters depending on the position of the rear seat backs.

The facelift from 2023 brought some visual changes. The Corsa, which has since been called Corsa Electric, received, among other things, the radiator grille known from the Mokka and Astra. There were also modified bumpers and factory LED headlights. New decors were introduced inside; A more powerful infotainment system including navigation and AI functions were available.

Engines and drive

Initially, Opel offered an electric motor with 100 kW/136 hp and 260 Nm in conjunction with a 50 kWh battery. This maximum value is achieved in sport mode, in normal mode it is 80 kW/109 hp and 220 Nm; In Eco mode, the electric car produces 61 kW/82 hp and 180 Nm. The maximum speed is limited to 150 km/h.

Opel states the standard consumption as 16.8 kWh. A range of up to 340 kilometers is theoretically possible. The battery can be charged at a household socket, a wallbox or a fast charging station (up to 100 kW charging power).

However, the Corsa was and is only delivered from the factory with a single-phase onboard charger. If you want to charge a little faster on your wallbox at home, look for models with the three-phase charger, which is subject to a surcharge.

The facelift brought another engine. In sport mode it produces 115 kW/156 hp and 260 Nm, the performance values for normal and eco mode have remained unchanged. The battery is slightly larger at 51 kWh, but thanks to improved efficiency it enables a range of around 400 kilometers.

Equipment and security

The E-Corsa was available in the well-known Opel equipment lines, including the base or “Edition” called “Corsa”. If you value appearance (aluminum rims) and amenities such as LED headlights or matrix lights, it is best to look for models with higher comfort levels such as GS-Line and Ultimate.

Opel also offered first-time buyers many options such as two-tone paint, navigation, smartphone integration and the three-phase onboard charger.  The equipment with driver assistance systems is impressive for a small car.
