Rüsselsheim/Hamburg. The car manufacturer Opel is postponing the comeback of its classic sports car Manta. “The Manta project exists, there are design models – but none of these models will come onto the market before 2030,” Opel boss Florian Huettl told Spiegel magazine.

The cult car was originally supposed to be revived as an electric model in the middle of the current decade, as Huettl and his predecessors had repeatedly announced. The Rüsselsheim-based company presented a Manta A converted into an electric car, which was expressly intended as an emotional warm-up for a future series project.

The sporty Manta Coupé had a large fan base in the 1970s and 1980s. The Manta B in particular became a favorite object of tuners and hobbyists, who decorated the car with, among other things, a foxtail.

According to Hüttl, Opel has rearranged the medium-term priorities of the major Stellantis company. A new edition of the small car Corsa and new SUV models initially have priority at the German subsidiary over a new edition of the Manta.
