Toyota Kirloskar Motor Begins 2026 with 15% Rise in January 2026 Sales

Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) has started calendar year 2026 on a positive footing, posting a 15 percent year-on-year increase in sales in January, as steady demand for its core MPV and SUV portfolio helped offset a largely flat export performance.
The company sold 33,880 vehicles in the month, compared with 29,371 in January 2025. Domestic sales accounted for the bulk volume at 30,630 units, up 17 percent year on year, while exports edged up marginally to 3,250 units from 3,193 units a year earlier.

The January performance underlines Toyota’s continued strength in high-demand segments such as MPVs and SUVs, led by models including the Innova HyCross, Innova Crysta, Fortuner, Legender and the Urban Cruiser Hyryder, which together remain the backbone of the company’s India operations.

A key development during the month was the launch of the all-electric Urban Cruiser Ebella, marking Toyota’s formal entry into India’s battery-electric passenger vehicle space. The launch aligns with the Japanese automaker’s broader multi-pathway strategy, which continues to balance hybrids, efficient ICE vehicles, and now electric mobility. The prices of the EV is still to be announced.

Commenting on the January numbers, Sabari Manohar, Executive Vice President for Sales, Service and Used Car Business at Toyota Kirloskar Motor, said the year had begun on an encouraging note. He pointed to sustained customer trust in Toyota’s focus on quality, safety and sustainability, while highlighting the Ebella launch as a step towards future-ready mobility solutions.
