Major infrastructure and welfare projects aimed at accelerating Delhi’s development are set to gain momentum under this Union Budget because of enhanced central support, faster execution and a long-term vision for nation building, Delhi minister Parvesh Verma said on Tuesday.

The Budget reflects a project-centric approach that prioritises roads, public services and economic stability while strengthening global confidence in India, he added.

The capital’s infrastructure push will see a significant boost, particularly in road development, he said. Public Works Department received ₹805 crore for road works in the current financial year, and for 2026-27, it will seek central allocations of ₹1,200 crore for large-scale road strengthening, expansion and modernisation, he said.

“With stronger central backing, the quality of Delhi’s roads will improve, traffic congestion will reduce and commuter safety will be enhanced,” he said.

Placing these projects in a broa-der economic context, Verma said India’s rising global stature under PM Modi is creating favourable conditions for overall growth. He pointed to the trade deal with US as a sign of increasing international trust in India’s economic strength. “This (the deal) will benefit exporters, attract investment and open up new opportunities acro-ss sectors, which will also positively impact Delhi,” he said. Describing it as a “next-generation budget” focused on long-term outcomes, Verma said, “It is not about what we gain today, but about what India and Delhi will become tomorrow. It aligns with the vision of a developed India by 2047.”

The minister also said improved coordination between the Centre and Delhi govt has helped restart several long pending projects, bringing stability, accountability and efficiency to governance in the city in the past 11 months.

Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva highlighted welfare initiatives alongside infrastructure development in the city. The BJP govt under CM Rekha Gupta is fulfilling its promises made before the 2025 elections, he said.

BJP’s Ramvir Singh Bidhuri said a strong leadership at the Centre and stable governance in Delhi are ensuring faster execution of projects and direct benefits to citizens, reinforcing public confidence in the party’s development agenda. “Delhi is now witnessing visible changes on the ground,” he said.>
