LeafyBus and Eicher to Deploy 100 Electric Intercity Sleeper Buses

LeafyBus, India’s first long-distance electric bus operator, has entered into a partnership with Eicher Trucks & Buses to deploy 100 Skyline Pro E 13.5m electric intercity sleeper buses across major national routes. The initiative forms part of efforts to expand clean mobility options and reduce diesel dependency in India’s long-haul travel sector.

The deployment will begin with 35 buses scheduled for rollout by March 31, 2026. The electric bus leasing programme will be facilitated by Enetra EV Private Limited, supporting route expansion including Delhi–Dehradun, Delhi–Lucknow and other high-demand corridors planned over the next 18 months.

The partnership represents Volvo Group’s entry into India’s intercity electric bus segment through its joint venture with Eicher. Teams from both LeafyBus and Eicher are collaborating on route planning, charging infrastructure design, uptime solutions and operational support.

The Skyline Pro E 13.5m electric sleeper bus features a 36+D layout with upper and lower berths, powered by a 400 kWh LFP battery and a 235 kW permanent magnet motor. The buses are equipped with front and rear air suspension, advanced braking systems, and energy-efficient technology designed for intercity operations.

Eicher Trucks & Buses is a division of VE Commercial Vehicles Ltd., a joint venture between the Volvo Group and Eicher Motors Limited. The company provides Eicher-branded trucks and buses and distributes Volvo Trucks in India.

LeafyBus currently operates daily electric services on the Delhi-Dehradun route and is expanding nationwide. The company has received USD 4.1 million in funding from Enetra India Pvt. Ltd. for fleet growth, charging infrastructure, and new route development. The operator plans to introduce at least one new electric travel corridor monthly as part of its expansion strategy.

Enetra EV Private Limited specializes in leasing electric buses and trucks, working with fleet operators and manufacturers to support India’s transition to zero-emission commercial transportation.
