The Maharashtra government has designated Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) as the state-level nodal agency to build the backbone for electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure, according to a latest government resolution. Under the GR, MSEDCL will coordinate with the Maharashtra Electricity Regulatory Commission (MERC) to determine EV charging tariffs and work with all power distribution companies to facilitate electricity connections for charging stations.
The utility has also been tasked with preparing a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) within 30 days to lay down the process for distributing grants to concerned departments.
A key focus will be leveraging central assistance under the PM e-DRIVE scheme. The GR states that government buildings will be eligible for a 100 per cent grant for upstream electrical infrastructure.
