Volkswagen Recalls 219,000 Polo of the current model year due to problems with rear seatbelt buckles. The defect also affects 191,000 Seat models of the series Ibiza and Arona, whose buckles are configured similarly, said a VW spokesman.
In the affected vehicles, it could happen in fast lane changes with five people on board, that two seat belt buckles of the rear seat are pressed over each other and the lock of the outer left seat jumps open accidentally. This has a Finnish journal found out in a test.
VW has developed a technical solution that prevents this. This should be implemented by recall and by means of a production change for the Polo of the current generation. Until then, all affected cars could continue to be safely operated on the road – but advised Volkswagen its customers, first not to use the middle seat of the back seat.
The callback will start shortly. The vehicle owners would be informed in writing.
