So far, electric cars have a hard time in Germany. BMW wants to change that: Next year, the car maker wants to sell 65 percent more e-cars than before.

BMW is setting high targets for sales of electric cars: “BMW should sell 100,000 electrified cars next year,” said BMW boss Harald Krüger the “Süddeutsche Zeitung”. This includes both pure electric vehicles and hybrids that combine an electric and combustion engine.
In 2016, BMW expects to sell about 60,000 electric cars, which would mean an increase of more than 65 percent in the target of 100,000 next year. In total, BMW sold only about 100,000 electrified vehicles between 2013 and 2016.
BMW is now “in the second phase, in which we roll out the offer of electric cars on the classic brands and model series,” said the CEO of the car manufacturer. In 2025, the share of hybrid and electric cars will then be 15 to 25 percent.
“Electromobility is coming, but at the moment, demand is not yet coming through the roof,” Krüger said. The purchase premium in Germany is not enough. “What we need is the right infrastructure.” This is generally considered an important prerequisite for the success of electric vehicles. So far, around 60,000 of them are on the road.
