BMW announces record profit for 2016

In terms of sales and profits, BMW achieved record figures last year. However, the core business was weaker for the Group.

BMW achieved a record profit last year. The bottom line was the car maker 6.9 billion euros, or eight percent more than last year. This was announced by the company based on preliminary figures.

Thanks to its strong financial sector, the Group largely offset higher costs for new car models. The profit also increased in the past year thanks to lower taxes. Ironically, it was again weaker in the core business. Earnings before interest and taxes fell by a total of 2.2 percent to 9.39 billion euros, because the profit margin fell in the car business.

Deliveries increased by 5.3 percent to almost 2.4 million vehicles. Sales increased by 2.2 percent to 94 billion euros – also a high. BMW For the seventh year in a row “have achieved record sales and earnings”, said CEO Harald Krüger.
