The prosecutor Braunschweig has a media report according to their investigations Volkswagen expanded – and again searched the headquarters in Wolfsburg. This papers and larger amounts of data have been confiscated, quoted the “Wirtschaftswoche” a spokesman for the investigative authority.

The investigation is about possibly incorrect consumption and thus CO2 information on vehicles. The prosecution is according to the report, based on their own investigations, the suspicion that Volkswagen in the fall of 2015 wrongly informed about the results of their own investigations in connection with CO2 values. This possibly false information of the capital market gives rise to the suspicion of market manipulation.

It is apparently about an ad hoc release issued by VW on 9 December 2015. This was “objectively wrong in content,” said a spokesman for the prosecutor of the “Wirtschaftswoche”.

The relevant for the stock market price and investors notice VW had provided the headline “CO2 issue largely completed” and thus revised its previous ad hoc of November 3, 2015. In this VW had reported, in the determination of the CO2 value for the type approval of vehicles, it came to “unexplained values”. Around 800,000 vehicles of the VW group should originally be affected, the economic risks VW estimated at about two billion euros.

“We can confirm that there have been searches,” said a VW spokesman. In addition, he did not want to comment and referred to the investigations of the prosecutor. A spokesman for the prosecutor was initially not reachable.
