Ford will invest 200 million euros in its plant in Romania for the production of a second vehicle

The automobile company Ford will invest up to 200 million euros in its plant in Craiova (Romania) for the production of a second vehicle, which will be joined to the current EcoSport SUV that is manufactured in the facilities, according to the firm, which has invested close of 1,500 million euros since 2008 in this location.

“This new investment will add to our growing range of new and exciting models manufactured in Europe and will continue the transformation of our Craiova facilities,” said Steven Armstrong, president and CEO of Ford in Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

For its part, the company has stated that it will confirm the production start date of the second car, as well as the model that is “closest to the launch”.

“The addition of this second vehicle is a testament to the operational flexibility of our Craiova plant and reflects the strong partnerships we have with local suppliers and the community,” added Armstrong.

Since Ford acquired the facilities in 2008, it has invested close to 1,500 million euros in Craiova. In addition, the firm has recently made “significant improvements” in the operations of the plant, with the installation of more than 550 robots to improve “even more” the efficiency and quality in the paint, in the moldings, as well as in the chassis .

With this new investment, the company will create about 1,500 jobs for a third shift, which will increase the number of employees of its plant in Craiova to 5,900 people.
