The purchase of Opel by PSA Peugeot Citroën is getting closer. Now apparently the control committee of the French car maker has cleared the way for the takeover.

The board of directors of the French car maker PSA Peugeot Citroën has cleared the way for the purchase of Opel, according to several media. The acquisition of the General Motors subsidiary should be announced on Monday, according to a report by the news agency Reuters.

Earlier, the “Handelsblatt” already reported about it. The PSA Board of Directors will meet on Monday to approve the purchase, French political circles said. Actually, the operation should have been completed this Friday, but the negotiating partners were not finished. Monday was safe now.

The French state owns around 14 percent of PSA and the government is represented on the supervisory board. In the environment of the Opel supervisory board it was confirmed that Monday was the deadline.
