The future Opel owner PSA sets itself this year on red numbers at the Rüsselsheim carmaker. Under the leadership of the former US mother General Motors (GM), although there has been a number of progress, said the head of the French Peugeot and Citroën manufacturer, Carlos Tavares, at the PSA General Assembly. So the turnover was increased and the minus was contained. “But we have to recognize that the losses are real and will be in 2017 as well.”
Persistent red numbers have caused GM to sell Opel and its British sister Vauxhall to Peugeot. PSA with its previous brands Peugeot, Citroën and DS wants to move up with the acquisition to a “European car champion” and the number two behind Volkswagen.
At Opel, there is growing concern that the future parent company could reduce PSA jobs. The works council therefore demands “court-proof” guarantees and threatens with strikes.
