Automobile registrations increased by 7.2% in May, with more than 135,000 units

The registrations of cars and SUVs in Spain reached a volume of 135,522 units in May, which represents an increase of 7.2% and the best record for this month since 2008, despite the fact that the market accumulates the longest period without plans of incentives, with almost two years since the funds of the PIVE Plan were exhausted.

According to data from the associations of manufacturers (Anfac), dealers (Faconauto) and sellers (Ganvam), car deliveries in the first five months of the year stood at 592,269 units, which translates into an increase of 10.6% with respect to the 535,697 units sold during this period of last year.

The director of Communication of Anfac, Noemi Navas, said that the month of May closed with its best figure since 2008 and noted that the demand of individuals recovered the “tone”, while the channel of companies maintained “its strength”.

For his part, the president of Ganvam, Lorenzo Vidal de la Peña, said that the market continues to grow above 100,000 units per month, which he described as “a good pace”, although he indicated that the company channel was the one that obtained a greater volume of increase, “responding to a large extent to the automtrículas to cover commercial objectives”.

In addition, the communication director of Faconauto, Raul Morales, pointed out that the market behaved in May “as expected”, while for the next few months it foresees a “rebound” of the auto-registrations to prevent vehicles from being left out of the market. approved according to the regulations of emissions and consumption WLTP.

THE CHANNEL OF COMPANIES, THE ONE WHO PUSHES THE MOST.

By sales channels, deliveries to companies experienced a growth of 13.6% in May, up to 35,791 units, while in the first five months of the current year rose by 15.8% to 169,409 units.

On the other hand, individuals registered 61,362 units in May, 12.3% more, and 275,678 units so far this year, 11.2% more, while the rental market fell by 4.7% in the monthly calculation, up to 38,369 units, and up 4.1% since January, with 147,182 units.

By segments, in May commercial, compact, medium, sporty, large, small-volume and large MPV models experienced commercial setbacks, while sales in the medium, sports, small and large minivan segments dropped in 2018.

THE DIESEL CONTINUES DOWN.

On the other hand, in May the downward trend of diesel vehicles compared to gasoline remained. Thus, 59% of the sales of cars and jeeps in Spain last month corresponded to gasoline models, compared to 35.3% for diesel and 5.7% for electric and hybrid models.

During the first five months of the current year, deliveries of gasoline cars accounted for 57% of the total market, while diesel models reached 37.4% and hybrids and electric cars were made with 5.6%.
