Takeover: Webasto invests in charging solutions

By taking over the business unit Charging Stations at AeroVironment, the supplier is strengthening its long-term e-mobility strategy.

The Webasto Group has the planned, strategic takeover of the Efficient Energy Systems (EES) business unit of AeroVironment. Again supplierannounced on Tuesday, the purchase price is about 35 million US dollars. With the acquisition of all EES employees, Webasto strengthens its long-term e-mobility strategy, it said.

“This strategic acquisition is accelerating the global development of our charging systems business,” said Dr. Holger Engelmann, CEO, Webasto SE. “The expertise of ESS in the electric vehicle industry and Webasto’s position as a global system partner of almost all OEMs underlines the long-term strategic development of the Webasto Group,” added Engelmann. E-Mobility customers would benefit from the global experience in system integration and knowledge of the needs of the automotive industry.

The acquisition of AeroVironment’s EES business is part of Webasto’s dual strategy. This strengthens the company’s existing core business areas for sliding and panoramic roofs, convertible tops and thermosystems. In addition, the supplier is building new business areas for battery systems and charging solutions for hybrid and electric vehicles. (Tm)
