Mahle boss Wolf-Henning Scheider (55) is the favorite on the vacant executive chair at ZF Friedrichshafen. An official confirmation of the company does not exist yet. According to information from industry circles Scheider but has prevailed among several candidates. However, the supervisory board of the foundation company has yet to finalize its appointment at a meeting in the middle of next week. First, the “Manager Magazin” reported that Scheider made the race.

Although the name of the meal chief was mentioned more often recently, few had expected the spectacular change. The business economist has only been leading Mahle for two and a half years. Early boss changes are rather uncommon in the industry. It is the second time within a few years that Scheider causes a sensation. For even his change from Bosch to Mahle caused a stir. At Bosch, he led the automotive division and was responsible for two-thirds of the Group’s turnover of the world’s largest automotive supplier. Although Mahle had a turnover of twelve billion euros, he was much smaller than Bosch, but Scheider explained his change by saying that he wanted to become the boss of a company. Scheider is regarded as a factually sound, quiet representative of his guild.

ZF Friedrichshafen: End of the summer time

With piston specialist Mahle, he has pushed the switch to electric mobility with his “dual strategy”. A similar but even bigger task awaits ZF on him. The company from Lake Constance is three times the size of Mahle.

ZF CEO Stefan Sommer had left the company in December after a dispute with the owner foundation owned by the city of Friedrichshafen. The supervisory board had denied Sommer the planned takeover of the brake manufacturer Wabco for six billion euros.
