Alstom intends to tackle the semi-autonomous driving on rails in the Netherlands.
Especially the Swiss want partial autonomous driving for freight transport by rail. But there are also in Germany plans and the DLR also has such a move in development.
The French manufacturer Alstomwho also with EasyMile cooperates, wants to jump on the train and already tests this year a corresponding concept in the Netherlands, Specifically, you plan a 100-kilometer route near Rotterdam.
The project takes place in cooperation with the Rotterdam Rail Feeding, which provide the locomotives. The infrastructure along the route has been expanded in recent years. The automation should correspond to the partial autonomy (Level 3). Again, there are five levels of automation.
There will still be staff on board to monitor the systems. In an emergency, it should intervene.
The advantage of the concept would not only be the savings of travelers, but also the increase in efficiency and savings in consumption.
