ZF management and the city of Friedrichshafen have been at loggerheads over a proposed acquisition in the United States, following the 2015 takeover of automated driving specialist TRW for a reported $12 billion that was steered by Sommer.
The city owns a controlling stake of the company through a foundation, and its mayor sits on the supervisory board.
