Volkswagen wants the electric models I.D. Crozz and I.D. Buzz build for the US market locally. “For a strong product dynamics, they must be produced in the US,” said VW’s North America boss Hinrich Woebcken the British publication Autocar, “It is not possible to get into a mass production scenario with imported cars, we want to localize electric mobility in the US.”

Volkswagen wants to offer the Buzz and Crozz worldwide, but for the US market both models would have to be Americanized, said Woebcken on, without giving details.

Of the ID Crozz has four-wheel drive with two electric motors, which together have a system output of 225 kW. The electric motor on the front axle has 75 kW, the rear axle 150 kW. The motors are networked via a control unit to distribute the power. The car should reach a top speed of 180 km / h. The battery has a capacity of 83 kWh. Thus, the car should come, according to VW for the New European Driving Cycle (NEDC) 500 km far. This corresponds to a range of around 355 km after the stricter driving cycle of the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). At a 150 kW charging station, the battery should be charged to 80 percent in half an hour.

The production version of the ID Buzz, which is reminiscent of the legendary VW Bus Bulli, is to be built on the basis of the Volkswagen Modular Electrical Construction Kit (MEB). Technical details such as battery life and engine performance VW holds under lock and key. The study said in early 2017, the bus is equipped with four-wheel drive, each of the two engines to about 150 kW (204 hp) come, which should allow an enormous acceleration of just under 5 seconds for the sprint from 0 to 100 km / h , The vehicle drives a maximum of 160 km / h and measures 4.9 x 1.97 x 1.96 meters. Whether this also applies to the production vehicle, is not known. No information was provided on the planned price of the ID Buzz and the ID Crozz.

At the IAA Motor Show in September 2017 announced VW CEO Matthias Müller a roadmap E to: VW wants to invest 70 billion euros in the development of electric cars and battery production. By 2025, about every fourth new vehicle in the group could be an electric car.
