Beautiful view and view: During the test drives the Opel Combo Life visits among others the vineyards of Rheinhessen.
With a sophisticated plan
Soon the wait will come to an end: The Opel Combo Life and the Combo Cargo are in the starting blocks and soon also at the dealer. From August 22 to September 6, around 750 journalists, dealers and fleet customers in the K48 in Rüsselsheim have been informed about the family van and the van. Part of the program also included short test drives in the region: to Laubenheimer Höhe, Mönchbruch Mühle or Biebrich Castle.
The sale to employees invites: Employees can experience the Combo Life on 18 and 19 September in Rüsselsheim live. In Eisenach, the newcomer is ready for test rides on September 29th.
Among the guests in Rüsselsheim were also representatives of the jury, which awards the title International Van of the Year (IVOTY): Opel wants with the combo and siblings
Citroën Berlingo and Peugeot Partner win the prestigious award for commercial vehicles. Meanwhile, the K48 event and test drives are part of a sophisticated, multi-month plan that Opel’s product and brand communication has been implementing since the beginning of 2018. The first Combo Life photos were released in February before the world premiere of the OPEL ARENA followed in April. By the time the order was placed in June, for example, the newcomer already visited 19 countries. Even after his presentation in Rüsselsheim, the combo is back on a European tour.
Also in June, the colleagues published the first photos of the brother model Combo Cargo, which presented itself to the guests in Rüsselsheim now for the first time. For him, it continues to the IAA Commercial Vehicles in Hanover (20 to 27 September 2018), where he celebrates his international world premiere. And by the end of September, the transporter variant will also be available for order.
With clenched information
“The fifth generation of combo will certainly help us to increase our market share in the LCV segment. In addition to the SUV, the Van B segment is one of the fastest growing segments in the entire automotive industry. Between 2014 and 2017, sales here grew by a whopping 30 percent. As part of the Groupe PSA, which has a market share of 29 percent in Europe in this segment, we too are well placed to achieve this goal. “
Tobias Stoever, Senior Manager LCV
“With Combo Life, we especially appeal to young families who need a lot of space. In order for this clientele to be achieved, we will for the first time advertise TV commercials for Combo Life. And since safety is playing an increasingly important role, we are very well positioned in the competitive environment. Knowing the strength of the two models, we want to double our sales in Europe. “

Ex-professional footballer and world champion Roman Weidenfeller meanwhile traveled to Rüsselsheim in his Grandland X and was the journalist for numerous interviews available. “I have been a customer for many years and fully satisfied with the cars. I identify very much with the Opel brand, “said former goalkeeper Borussia Dortmund, who now serves as BVB brand ambassador.

»This is a completely successful model for the family.«
–
Weidenfeller already knows the combo life from a video shoot. “I had the rehearsal of the new combo and was present at the commercial. This is a completely successful model for the family, “said the 38-year-old, who will be seen in the spot with his former team-mates Marco Reus, Lukasz Piszczek and Nuri Sahin. “I was not allowed to drive it yet, because they were afraid that we would break the demonstration car.”
With engineering colleagues who know all the numbers
The new Opel Combo Cargo offers up to 4.4 cubic meters of cargo space more space than most of its competitors in the segment. “In addition, it can withstand up to 1,000 kilograms of payload and pick up items and equipment up to 3,440 millimeters of cargo length,” says Bettina Zimmer, Program Engineering Manager Combo. “The engineers have packed a lot of clever ideas into the 4,40 or 4,75 meter long car, depending on the wheelbase.” Both cars also have some features on board that are more likely to be located in the upper class. “Thanks to a new development approach, the new combo generation has by far the highest level of comfort and technology in the segment,” continued Zimmer. For the Combo Life was from the outset by car standards and not as normally initially developed as a commercial vehicle.
–
»The combo: developed according to car standards.«
–
“Combo Life has a total of 19 driver assistance systems, with Combo Cargo it can even be up to 21”, adds Silke Treffinger, Program Manager Combo. These include, for example, the standard front collision warning system, the 180-degree reversing camera and the Flank Guard shunting guard. Steering wheel, front seats and windscreen are heatable, systems such as the head-up display, the fatigue detection and the adaptive cruise control emphasize the high comfort.
With test drives in the region
The tests with the combo duo had some highlights to offer. In addition to winding roads waited picturesque landscapes and even a trip to the vineyards of Rheinhessen. True to the motto “in vino veritas”, the journalists were thus able to experience first-hand and literally how the newcomers can prove themselves apart from the sometimes dense city traffic.
–
»The switch box provides a very good idea.«
–
Under the bonnet stuck three different engines, which combined with a total of four transmission variants and led both drivers and passengers through the Rhine-Main area. For example, the editor of AutoBild notes: “Downhill with the 1.5-liter diesel, 130 hp and eight-speed automatic. The switch box provides a splendid idea in start-stop traffic. “And the journalists from autozeitung.de have a clear message after the test drive:” The world is not just bearable in the SUV. “
And with success
