APAC Dealbook: Grab-Samsung tech collaboration; Indonesia’s OKHOME raises $300k

Grab has partnered with Samsung to improve services for both drivers and passengers, while on-demand home cleaning service OKHOME has received $300,000 in a seed funding round from South Korean venture capital firms.

Southeast Asia’s ride-hailing company Grab has signed a multi-year MoU with electronics giant Samsung to collaborate on a wide range of initiatives to enhance Grab customer and driver experience.

According to a press release by Grab, the strategic partnership will involve the development of a number of customized solutions for the ride-hailing industry. Among the initiatives to be implemented are micro-financing schemes for Grab’s driver-partners, improved customer booking and in-car experience, and mobile payments solution to serve the needs of Grab users throughout Southeast Asia.

“Samsung is one of the world’s most innovative technology companies, and we’re thrilled to partner with them to empower more people in Southeast Asia to improve their livelihoods and provide more digital services for everyone on the Grab platform,” said Grab co-founder and CEO Anthony Tan.

Indonesia’s home cleaning service OKHOME raises $300,000 in seed funding

On-demand home cleaning service OKHOME has raised a $300,000 seed funding round from South Korean venture capital firms K Cube Ventures and Spring Camp to boost operations in Jakarta.

OKHOME founder Daehyun Kim told DEALSTREETASIA via email that the funds will be used to develop a better system to match customers with cleaning consultants, to provide better training and tools to its cleaning consultants and finally, to expand its team and marketing operations.

Daehyun added that OKHOME, which currently offers home cleaning service, is looking to provide “total solution for families” in the future to free family members from household work so they can spend more time together.

OKHOME started operations in Jakarta in November 2016 and launched a mobile application in April 2017.
