Flensburg, November 2, 2018. In October 2018, 252,682 Passenger cars (Cars) newly registered. That is -7.4 percent less than in the same month last year. The share of private registrations was 36.3 percent (-10.1%). In the first ten months of this year, a total of 2,926,046 new passenger cars registered a plus of 1.4 percent more than in the same period of the previous year.
In the German Brands Double-digit growth at BMW was +25.6 percent, followed by Smart (+23.8 percent), Mini (+20.4 percent) and Mercedes (+19.2 percent). For both Ford (+ 5.0%) and Opel (+ 1.0%), the statistics showed a one-digit increase. Declines were most pronounced at Porsche with -74.2 percent, followed by Audi with -64.0 percent and VW with -18.9 percent. With a share of 16.2 percent, despite its decline, VW was the strongest-selling brand, followed by Mercedes, whose share of the passenger carregistrations 12.6 percent.
Among the import brands, Mitsubishi’s + 63.3 percent in October showed the clearest increase in registrations. Increases of more than twenty percent were also seen in Lexus with +21.4 percent and Volvo with +20.5 percent. Fiat (+15.7%), Jeep (+15.6%) and Mazda (+11.8%) also achieved double-digit growth. Decline in registrations of more than thirty percent was recorded in October at Tesla (-61.5%), Nissan (-51.6%), Renault (-36.6%), Land Rover (-35.6%) and SSangyong ( -34.6%).
Despite a decline of -8.8 percent, Skoda achieved the highest proportion of new registrations among imported brands (5.7%), followed by the brand Hyundai, which achieved despite a minus of -2.6 percent, a new registration share of 3.7 percent.
With 23.5 percent, most of the newly registered cars were classified as compact cars. 19.2 percent of new cars accounted for that segment SUVs, 15.6 percent were small cars. The Motorhomes (+ 39.4%) and Minis (+ 12.9%) segments posted double-digit increases. The most significant declines were seen in the sports car (-40.3%), utilities (-30.0%), vans (-28.5%) and middle-class (-27.7%) segments.
About two thirds of the registrations were gasoline (62.3% / – 5.3%), 31.8 percent were diesel cars (-15.8%). 4.4 percent of the new cars were Hybrid car (+31.5%). Of this, 0.8 percent (-30.8%) was accounted for by the plug-in hybrids. 1.3 percent were electric cars, with the largest increase of + 55.5%.
A share of 0.1 percent each was attributable to the liquefied natural gas (343 passenger cars / + 12.8%) and natural gas-driven (206 passenger cars / -49.9%) new cars.
The average CO2 emissions of new cars rose by +2.5 percent to 130.9 g / km (same month last year: 127.6 g / km).
7,952 new ones motorcycles were admitted in October 2018, an increase of +20.9 percent.
The commercial vehicles showed up in all vehicle categories a plus. It recorded the buses and coaches with + 47.3 percent the most significant increase. Double-digit growth was also evident in the Tractor (+17.1%), Other motor vehicles (+16.8%), the Lorry (Trucks) (+16.5%) and the tractors in total (+12.4%).

The used vehicle market recorded a total of 720,145 cars and 33,088 carfollowers an increase of +9.1 percent and +12.5 percent, respectively.
