SEOUL, Nov. 9 (Yonhap) — A senior official of Kia Motors Corp. called on its employees to push for strong “self-help” efforts to reduce unnecessary spending and boost productivity in a rare email message to them on Friday.
Vice President Choi Jun-young sent the message amid a growing sense that the company is not performing well, as its profits have been lower than expected. For the three months ending Sept. 30, Kia posted a profit of 297.74 billion won (US$262 million), an improvement on a net loss of 291.77 billion won a year earlier.
“It is time for us all to make all-out efforts to overcome the crisis of today,” he wrote.
“We have to strongly push for self-help efforts such as curtailing unnecessary expenditures and enhancing productivity by improving unreasonable practices,” he added.
It is the first time in recent months that Choi has sent such a message to employees.
