Watch what Tesla Autopilot can see in incredible 360º video

We already had a few good looks at what Tesla Autopilot can see, but now we have the best visualization to date with an incredible 360º video representative of the Autopilot’s entire array of cameras.

Earlier this summer, we already had a rare look at what Tesla Autopilot can see and interpret from Tesla hackers ‘verygreen’ and ‘DamianXVI’.

A few months later, They did it again with a new Tesla drive in Paris through the eyes of Autopilot and again using Tesla’s latest version of Autopilot in the new version 9 software.

Those videos are very cool, but they have their limitations when it comes to the visualization since Tesla Autopilot is now using all the cameras around the vehicle, which is hard to show in a regular video.

Pranav Kodali built on the work of ‘verygreen’ and DamianXVI to pull the data from the Autopilot and stitch them up together to create a 360º video.

He described it on Youtube:

“A visualization of the data eight autopilot cameras see when driving on the famous Tail of the Dragon course. Data for visualization was taken directly from an autopilot 2.5 car.”

Here’s the video (you can pan around in order to get the full immersive experience):

Electrek’s Take

That’s so cool. It really gives us a good idea of what Autopilot can see through its 8 cameras all around the car.

With the latest rewrite of Tesla’s computer vision neural net, I think we are going to see Autopilot improve a lot faster in the coming months.

In the meantime, it’s still important to remain vigilant and be ready to take control at all times.

Furthermore, the visualization made me imagine what it would look like if Tesla was to expand its dashcam feature to include all cameras.

I don’t think it would really be necessary, but it would still be cool.
