Carlos Ghosn is expected to be charged with financial malpractice by the Tokyo prosecutor’s office on Monday, December 10, the day his incarceration ends, reports Nikkei newspaper on Friday, December 7, citing unidentified sources. Former Nissan president accused of undervaluing his income.
Carlos Ghosn’s former advisor to Japanese automaker Greg Kelly is also expected to be indicted, the newspaper says, as does the group. Nissan for failing to prevent alleged fraud.
No comments were obtained from the Tokyo prosecutor’s office. Nissan representatives did not make a statement.
The charges against Carlos Ghosn are weighed down
Carlos Ghosn is accused of having, with the help of Greg Kelly, declared about half of about 10 billion yen (78 million euros) of his remuneration received over a period of five years until 2010.
The two men were arrested on November 19th. Their incarceration has been extended from Friday, November 30 to December 10, when prosecutors must decide to charge, release or re-arrest suspects on new charges.
According to the information reported on Tuesday, December 4 by the daily Sankei and confirmed by NikkeiCarlos Ghosn and Greg Kelly could be arrested again on December 10 for downgrading Ghosn’s compensation by around 4 billion yen (31 million euros) between 2015 and 2017.
Carlos Ghosn denies embezzlement
Carlos Ghosn is not in a position to respond to the charges himself, and his lawyer’s office, Motonari Otsuru, does not respond to requests for comment.
According to the NHK channel, the former president of Nissan denies the malfeasance of which he is suspected.
