MADRID, 12 Dec. (EUROPA PRESS) –

Nissan started the production of Patrol in its factory in the Zona Franca de Barcelona in 1983, being the first ‘Spanish’ all-terrain vehicle and one of the first in Europe to use adhesive markings on its bodywork.

According to the Japanese firm in a statement, in 18 years, until 2001, 196,000 Patrol units were manufactured and the vehicle’s success was such that one out of every two SUVs sold in Spain in 1988 was a Patrol.

The ‘made in Spain’ off-road vehicle was exported all over the world, to countries such as Angola, Argentina, New Caledonia, Tanzania and Uruguay. The Patrol also opened the way to the manufacture of SUVs and ‘pick-ups’ in the Zona Franca plant in Ciudad Condal, which continued in 1993 with the Terrano II.

The Barcelona factory produced 375,000 units of the Terrano II until May 2005, the year the Pathfinder was launched and the first version of the Navara pick-up.

Currently, more than 37,000 units of the Nissan Patrol are in circulation in Spain.
