Opel again under suspicion of manipulation

Opel had to improve on about 100,000 diesel cars by software update. Now the Federal Motor Vehicle Authority is again investigating the manufacturer’s cars – including a particularly popular model.

At the automaker Opel are further diesel models under suspicion of manipulation. According to information from the Hessischer Rundfunk this examines Federal Motor Vehicle Office (KBA) currently, among other things, the emission control of the best-selling model Astra on illegal defeat devices. It is about until recently produced engines that are already to meet the Euro 6 standard. Opel did not want to comment on Friday.

The Federal Office had the car manufacturer already imposedTo retrofit thousands of diesel cars of the models Insignia, Cascada and Zafira from the model years 2013 to 2016 via software. Opel had tried in vain to defend itself with a preliminary injunction against the decision. A hardware retrofitting rejects the company anyway. The company, acquired by the French PSA Group in August 2017, sees the former owner General Motors in liability.
