VW reports “abnormalities” in new exhaust software

At VW new irregularities have been noticed – just in the software update for diesel engines. The Federal Motor Transport Authority is on.

At VW internal controls of the new exhaust gas software for diesel vehicles “abnormalities” have been registered. Thereupon one informed “immediately active” the Kraftfahrtbundesamt (KBA), communicated Volkswagen. First, the “Bild am Sonntag” had reported the suspicion of a new “cheating software”.

The software update will not be installed on other cars of the type, said a company spokesman. “Appointments have already been agreed for the beginning of January in order to press ahead with further testing and analysis,” said VW.

From the Federal Ministry of Transport it was said that the problem with the software update was known. The process will be audited by the KBA.

The car manufacturer VW had admitted in August 2015 to US authorities, worldwide with millions of diesel engines exhaust purification to have manipulated, Government and the auto industry rely on software updates as a key tool to reduce emissions.
