Emissions: VW pays millions in the exhaust gas scandal in India

New Delhi, WolfsburgVolkswagen deposited in India because of the exhaust gas scandal a payment of approximately 12.3 million euros. The company sticks however with the opinion that all cars with in India applicable emission standards agree as a speaker of Volkswagen India said on Thursday.

At present, VW is challenging the order of a special tribunal (NGT) dealing with violations of environmental protection requirements in the country’s Constitutional Court. Until a decision there, however, the money is paid to the relevant environmental regulatory authority (CPCB).

According to Indian media reports, the group was threatened with the arrest of the managing director and the confiscation of assets should the money not be received within 24 hours. A VW spokesman from Wolfsburg said that the issue would be heard on Monday in the Constitutional Court.

After flaring up the manipulations, Volkswagen India had recalled more than 320,000 cars in December 2015 for a software update. The effects of the scandal have cost the company, according to the spokesman for Thursday already more than 28.2 billion euros worldwide.
