Everything is not black for Renault. In the turmoil since the arrest, in Japan, of his boss Carlos Ghosn , the French manufacturer has not achieved a bad year in commercial terms.
On the contrary: in 2018, the diamond group sold 3.88 million vehicles, an increase of 3.2% over last year. This is the sixth consecutive year of growth for the diamond manufacturer, which now accounts for more than half of its international volumes outside Europe (50.6% of sales, compared to 49.2% in 2017).
A new record that allows Renault to maintain pole position among French manufacturers, for the third year in a row. PSA has indeed announced Tuesday a rise in sales of 6.2%, but in absolute terms, the brand led by Carlos Tavares has sold 6,530 vehicles less than its rival, mainly due to its delay internationally.
Performance outside Europe
In all, sales outside Europe rose by 6.1% for Renault, as the group’s performance in Russia, Brazil and Africa offset the halt in sales in Iran and a drop in deliveries in India.
More importantly, Renault’s growth is due to last year’s consolidation of utility sales in China via a joint venture with local manufacturer Brilliance. On the other hand, Renault sales stagnated in Europe last year (+ 0.5%).
