The Government will promote the alternative vehicle and the autonomous car in its Agenda for Change

The Government has included a sustainable mobility plan in its ‘Agenda for Change: Towards an inclusive and sustainable economy’ to promote the adoption of alternative vehicles and promote the installation of recharging points.

In addition, the Executive has included in this roadmap, which lays the foundations of an inclusive and sustainable development and that has been published this Friday by the Council of Ministers, pilot autonomous car and action 2019-2022 for the improvement of the efficiency and sustainability of the logistics chain.

It will also carry out a review of the toll model of the high capacity road network, aimed at ensuring sustainability and efficient use, as well as measures to promote productive and sustainable investments in ports.

Within the Government’s plans is also one of commuter (2019-2025) and the liberalization of rail passenger transport and other measures to support intermodal transport.

“This will be accompanied by municipal initiatives on urban mobility and the implementation of best practices, Application of Information Technology and Telecommunications and Internet of Things to improve interconnectivity and intermodality,” the document said.

According to the Government, the network of physical and digital infrastructures, together with the “important” sector of assembly and automotive components, a “powerful” business sector of renewable energy and water management and treatment, would lead a process of transformation towards the sustainable mobility that attracts investment, generates new jobs and promotes the reduction of carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions.

All this is part of the fight against climate change and the improvement of air quality and life in cities. With its Agenda for Change, the Executive also aims to place Spain among the leading countries in innovative processes such as driverless vehicles.

This Agenda for Change, which guides the Government’s action, is aligned with the reforms contemplated in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development of the United Nations to promote education, growth and quality employment, innovation, health and well-being. social, gender equality, respect and integration of diversity, and the sustainability of production and consumption models, as highlighted in the document.

The text includes more than 60 measures in the short and medium term aimed at supporting the process of ecological transformation, converging with the more developed countries in terms of welfare and achieving a more egalitarian society with an unemployment rate aligned with the European average.
