Volkswagen takes the shock of the “dieselgate”

Dieselgate has limited impact on Volkswagen Group accounts (Volkswagen, Audi, Seat, Porsche …). For the year 2018, the German giant of the automobile displays a turnover 235.8 billion euros, up 6 billion year-on-year. Especially, his operating profit finally proved stable at € 13.9 billion (+ 0.7%).

And this, taking into account a charge of 3.2 billion euros following the scandal engines faked. Without this charge, the operating result stands at 17.1 billion. The operating margin group is 7.3%, at the high end of the range of 6.5 to 7.5%.

A bad memory

Taxable income came to € 15.6 billion, a figure that does not include the € 4.6 billion result generated by its operations in China. first market world. As a result, the 12-brand group expects a dividend increase of 3.90 and 4.80 euros. On the forecast side, it expects a slight increase in deliveries in 2019 and a rise in sales of at least 5%.

The scandal of the “dieselgate” now seems a bad memory for Volkswagen. The group’s sales set a record in 2018, with 10.83 million (+ 0.9%) of vehicles sold worldwide and the leader of his Audi brand, Rupert Stadler, was finally released after four months in prison.

Challenges ahead

However, the German automotive giant faces other challenges. Like other manufacturers, it will face the slowdown in sales in China, the largest automotive market in the world and the group.

Finally, Volkswagen must adapt to new European anti-pollution standards (WLTP), entered into force last September and is also trying to reduce the emissions of its vehicles to 95 grams of CO2 per kilometer by 2020. For this, he announced January 14, a price increase that could reach up to 3,000 euros per vehicle.
