Singapore’s Temasek Holdings has invested an undisclosed amount in California-based airspace management platform AirMap, according to a Medium post by the company’s co-founder.
The Singapore state investment firm was joined by Honeywell Ventures, the venture capital arm of Honeywell, in the financing.
AirMap provides unmanned aerial system (UAS) Traffic Management (UTM) solutions to facilitate large-scale commercial drone deployment. Its strategic partners include Airbus, Microsoft, Qualcomm, and Sony.
AirMap has partnered with multiple air navigation service providers (ANSP) including skyguide in Switzerland. The partnership with the Swiss ANSP has resulted in Europe’s first national drone traffic management system, called U-space.
“Swiss U-space is enabling safe and secure access to Swiss skies for thousands of drones. Today, drones routinely operate Beyond Visual Line of Sight (BVLOS) missions to transport time-sensitive medical laboratory samples and urgently-needed medication between hospitals in Lugano and Zurich,” noted AirMap co-founder and chairman Ben Marcus in the Medium post.
Honeywell Ventures, which invests in early-stage, high-growth companies around the world, currently uses AirMap’s application programming interfaces (API) for industrial customers.
“Effective airspace planning and management starts with educating others and learning from real-world applications. By working with AirMap, we accelerate our end-to-end offering for our customers and bring scalable, safe UTM operations into controlled airspace,” said Brad Westphal, Senior Director for UAV Programs at Honeywell Aerospace.
AirMap had last raised $26 million in a Series B round led by Microsoft Ventures, with participation from Qualcomm Ventures, Airbus Ventures, Rakuten, Sony, Yuneec, General Catalyst, and Lux Capital in 2017.
