AI in the car has problems with people with dark skin?

Some Artificial Intelligence in cars still do not recognize people with darker skin.

Several years ago it became known that certain Artificial Intelligence (AI) black people in the US did not recognize. The reason for this was that people of this skin color were not part of the learning database. This development problem is probably still part of the programming.

Researchers at the Georgia Institute of Technology studied eight AI models used for navigation. The artificial intelligence is used to detect objects, traffic signs and foot traffic. These artificial intelligences were tested by researchers using images from pedestrian groups,

Among the persons shown were also people with dark skin. The artificial intelligence, the result of this study, showed a consistently poor performance when it came to people with dark skin. The recognition accuracy was reduced to five percent – it did not matter whether the image people on the day or in the night showed.

This shortage, according to the researchers, must be remedied. This can be achieved with the appropriate datasets used to program artificial intelligence. There, the entire diversity of people must be reflected. Otherwise, these could not be recognized and considered as passing.

So you can not say that Artificial Intelligence is racist, but it was programmed incorrectly. It is unclear whether those who picked out the pictures with people were racist. This would be the case if they had deliberately ignored the diversity of the human appearance. But unconscious omissions could also be possible.
