BerlinBMW-Boss Harald Kruger In 2019, given the fall in profits, there is no room for additional job creation. “We continue to recruit, but this year will not grow,” said Krüger the “Süddeutsche Zeitung”. BMW must now save in all areas, such as the complexity and variety. “There’s still room for improvement.”

Due to weaker business in China and Europe, BMW had one last year drastic decline in profits accept and announced more severe austerity measures. It is still unclear whether this will also be associated with job cuts. Next Wednesday (March 20), BMW wants to give a detailed look at the current year at the annual press conference.

The staff called Krüger to be open about the new partner Daimler on. One remains in spite of the cooperation in a tough competition. A cross-shareholding between the companies was “not an issue at all”.

BMW and Daimler work together in the field of car sharing, for example, and announced this at the end of February for automated driving. The companies want to arm themselves against competitors. “Anyone who is awake, sees how fast the competition increases,” Krüger said. Automakers and mobility providers like Tesla, Didi, Uber or Waymo have recently developed rapidly.
