The so-called Laundroid robot remains an unrealized idea.
There is a robot that Laundry can do, with the possible uses are limited. The company Mira Robotics is working on the idea. Meanwhile, the company that developed the Laundroid robot has filed for bankruptcy.
The Laundroid robot should put the laundry in the dryer, iron and fold it. That was the idea of automating the washing process. But just when folding the laundry, there were some problems, so that the concept did not really work.
The Japanese company, which the robot developed, now had to file for bankruptcy. The reason was not disclosed, but it is believed to be related to the cost of the robot. Other concepts that have been on the market so far require a lot of human input. For example, the Foldimate.
Robot in the household use must be easy to use and, above all, inexpensive. Foldimate is more for professional use. The Laundroid bot was meant for the household, but it would have been too expensive.
The Article on spectrum.ieee goes deeper into the question of whether there is a future for robotic robots – in the foreseeable future.
