This spring, Lyft has teamed up with Ground Up PDX, a Portland company that employs women overcoming adversity, to debut the customized nut butter flavor, Cashew Chai — a flavor imagined by Lyft driver and aspiring teacher Melanie H. With each jar sold, Lyft will donate a ride to nonprofit Outside In to help a woman in need of transit support.
Mel began driving with Lyft in the summer of 2017 when she first moved from Dublin, Calif. to Portland. She continued driving once she landed a job within Reynolds School District, as a way to continue to learn about the city (and interact with people over the age of 11). Now, as a graduate student at Lewis & Clark, Mel drives part time to supplement her grad student income.
The custom flavor is a cashew and coconut blend, spiced with local chai purveyor One Stripe Chai. The nut butter is available for purchase online, with ride credit benefitting both the women of Ground Up PDX and their community partner, Outside In.
